Greenwood Cup Returns to Hastings Golf Club
Our Greenwood Cup team was proud to regain the Greenwood Cup for 2022. Previous long-term manager Dennis Hirschman, likens the Greenwood Cup to the Ryder Cup and everyone around the 18th green at the Napier Golf Club could feel the tension and emotion as our number one, Brad Schmulian gained the half we needed against Maraenui's New Zealand representative, Mako Thompson, to secure the trophy for us.
Entering the weekend, we knew if we won all our matches we could regain the trophy. We beat Central Hawke's Bay 10-0 and the previously unbeaten Napier 7.5-2.5 on Saturday and Onga Onga 7-3 on Sunday morning, setting up the winner takes all vs. Maraenui in the afternoon.
We had a slight advantage with overall games won and this proved decisive as we drew 5-5 with Maraenui to win by a couple of individual games overall. Special mention to Mark Tasker and Josh Beattie who finished the tournament both with seven individual wins out of seven matches.
I would also like to thank the Hastings Golf Club members who supported us over the weekend.
The following players represented us over the two weekends at Waipukurau and Napier.
Stuart Duff, Mike Trass, Mike Wilson, Mark Tasker, Josh Beattie, Aaron Shirley, Jared McGillicuddy, Henry Yortt, Andrew Mouat, Angus Henderson, Steve Houlahan, Nicholas Schnell, Brad Schmulian & Paul Clothier
Thank you to all the players for their commitment and camaraderie.
